Why Do I Need a Contact Lens Exam?

Contact lens exams differ from routine eye exams because they focus on how the lenses fit your eyes, not just your vision. If you wear both glasses and contacts, you’ll need separate prescriptions for each.

Since contact lenses sit directly on your eye, the shape and health of your cornea matter. We use corneal topography–a detailed map of your eye’s surface–to find the correct fit. A poor fit can cause discomfort, so getting it right matters.

Schedule a contact lens exam with us today! A proper fit means you’ll feel comfortable throughout the day while seeing clearly.

Our Contact Lenses

We offer a variety of contact lenses to match different vision needs and lifestyles:

  • Soft lenses are comfortable and easy to wear and are great for most prescriptions
  • Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses can offer sharper vision and better durability
  • Toric lenses are designed for astigmatism
  • Scleral lenses are larger lenses that cover the sclera (white part of the eye) and are ideal for irregular corneas and dry eyes

What Happens During a Contact Lens Exam?

A contact lens exam begins with a thorough eye health check. We’ll use corneal topography to measure the shape of your eye and assess your tear production, helping your eyes stay comfortable while wearing lenses.

Small fitting issues can lead to discomfort or blurry vision, which is why this step is so important. After we’ve gathered your measurements, we’ll recommend a lens type tailored to your lifestyle and vision needs.

You’ll receive trial lenses so we can find the most comfortable and effective fit. It’s normal for this process to take a few tries to get just right, and we’re here to guide and support you every step of the way.

Caring for Your Contact Lenses

Taking proper care of your contact lenses is essential for maintaining healthy eyes. Always wash your hands before handling your lenses and use the recommended cleaning solution—never tap water. Avoid wearing your lenses while showering or swimming.

If your lenses are not disposable, clean them and store them in a fresh solution daily. Never sleep in lenses that aren’t designed for overnight use, as this can increase the risk of eye infections.

Our team will provide guidance on how long to wear your lenses and when to replace them. If you experience redness, discomfort, or blurry vision, remove your lenses immediately and contact us for advice.
